Sam and I were talking on the couch this last Sunday when Junior came downstairs and asked if we could do something with him. Sam said we could but he needed to use the bathroom first. He hadn’t gone in several hours and he has a habit of holding it a little too long.
He didn’t want to go (surprise, surprise) and insisted that we come now. The typical back and forth ensued:
“I don’t have to go.”
“You should try anyway.”
“But, Mom, I don’t have to go!”
“Junior, you need to at least try.”
“I told you, I don’t have to go.”
“We’re not doing anything until you have at least tried using the potty.”
Stumped, he stood there for a second contemplating what to say next. A big smile came across his face and he exclaimed, “Let’s make a family rule that you can’t pee on Sundays!”
Problem solved. No more peeing on Sundays.
